Leander Harold Carter Jr.

Obituary

HAVELOCK - Leander "Tobe" Harold Carter Jr., 81, of 181 Netties Drive, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

He was a retired longshoreman for the N. C. Port Authority and a Harlowe Fire Department volunteer with eighteen years of service. His lifetime membership at Piney Grove AME Zion Church included serving as an usher, trustee and former preacher steward. He was an active member of the Craven County Democratic Party and a member of the East Lily Masonic Lodge No. 803.

His service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Piney Grove AME Zion Church with the Rev. Robert Little Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Morris-Carter Family Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Norris Carter of the home; two daughters, Angela C. Blackmon of Charlotte and Greta R. Carter of Greensboro; four brothers, Charles Carter of Brooklyn, N.Y., Edward E. Carter of Greenville, Pat O. Carter of Woodbridge, Va., and Quinton Carter of Greenville; and one sister, Anna C. Frazier of Havelock.

The East Lily Masonic Lodge No. 803 will conduct ritualistic services 7 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at the mortuary. Viewing hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Friday, at the mortuary. The family will receive friends other times at the residence.
