BRIDGETON - Lewis Graham Mayo Sr., 92, of Bridgeton, NC, entered into Heaven on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Vidant Hospice House of Pitt County.
After serving in WWII as a gunner on a B-17 bomber, Lewis worked at Cherry Point until retiring with many years of service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Kathleen. They shared sixty-seven wonderful years together. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jackie and his parents, Dolph and Elizabeth Mayo, as well as three sisters, Etta Mae Anderson, Caroline Farmer and Eulee Delacko.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Mayo Blackburn and her husband, Sonny of Ernul; two sons, Erbol Mayo of the home and Louis Mayo, Jr. and his wife, Shirley of Alabama. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren and their spouses, Jimmy Blackburn and his wife, Kim, Graham Blackburn and his wife, Page, Misty Mayo Scott and her husband, Chris, Graham Mayo and fiancée, Kelly, Don McQueen and his wife, Donza, and Kim Reeves and her husband, Albert. He also had fourteen great-grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives as well.
Lewis was an active member of Kitt Swamp Christian Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He was a member of Doric Lodge No. 568 A.F. & A.M., the New Bern Scottish Rite Bodies, Sudan Temple and had served as a past director of the Shriner's Chef Crew.
Family and friends will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at Pollock-Best Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roy Savage officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park with Masonic rites and military honors.
