COVE CITY - Lora Jeanette Gaskins Avery, 74, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ while at home Monday, September 3, 2018, attended by her family.
All her adult life she was a member of Core Creek Free Will Baptist Church, where in her younger years she taught a children's Sunday School class and later kept the nursery. She also was a member of the Women's Auxiliary. She attended Lenoir Community College and kept a good home. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is preceded by her parents, Russell and Catherine Arnold Gaskins of Vanceboro.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Robert T. Avery; daughter, Dana Avery Williams; son, Robert Reid Avery (Judy) of Cove City; one brother, Hillary H. Gaskins of Vanceboro; two grandchildren, Robert Luke Williams and Amanda Williams Thompson (Tommy); two great-grandchildren, Axl Dean Thompson and Tinley Paige Thompson; one nephew, Kevin Gaskins (Angie) and son of Birmingham, AL; two nieces, Celeste G. Bryan (Harry) and Denise G. Willey (Josh) both of New Bern; very special cousins, Francis Cook and daughter, Virginia Frances Lee, and Frances A. Bryson; a special brother-in-law, Mike A. Avery of Washington, NC; special sister-in-law, Dianne Avery Nobles (Tucker) of Louisburg and two nephews, Patrick T. Nobles (Dianna), and Daniel J. Nobles (Carol).
Funeral will be at Core Creek Free Will Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5 with Reverend Michael Barnhill officiating. Burial will follow in the Cove City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Core Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
The family wishes to thank Craven County Hospice, Dr. Fisher, and all the staff and volunteers, and special care giver, Patricia Davis for their splendid efforts and public service.
