Marie Smith Antry, 91, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at her home. She was born on August 12, 1921 in Onslow County, North Carolina and was married to Virgel E. Antry for 46 years at the time of his death in 1993. She was the last surviving member of her family of seven siblings. She began her working career as a telephone operator in New Bern after her graduation from Pollocksville High School in 1937. She shared with her family many interesting stories about her experiences working for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company. After her marriage in 1946, she continued to work until her children were born after which time she worked full-time as a homemaker, a job in which she took great pride. She enjoyed visiting mountains in just about any location and she and her husband lived in western North Carolina for 9 years where they spent their retirement years until his death.

She is survived by her two sons, Ronald V. Antry and wife, Judith H. Antry and Arnold E. Antry and wife Elizabeth G. Antry, all of New Bern; four grandchildren, Sarah A. Riggs and husband, Michael A. Riggs of New Bern, Rebecca A. Davis and husband, Matthew R. Davis of Oriental, Christopher Holzman Antry and Charlotte Marie Antry of New Bern; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Hunter Davis of Oriental and Easton Michael Riggs of New Bern.

The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Towarnicky for his compassionate care during her illnesses and to all those staff members of Carolina East Medical Center and Two Rivers Healthcare Trent Campus for their excellent care and for the kindnesses that they extended to her during her visits there.

Graveside services will be held at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
