NEW BERN - Mary Susan Burkot of New Bern passed away on Saturday, November 17th, 2012. "Susan" was born on February 22, 1976, and is the youngest daughter of Jerry Alexander Burkot and Mary Jo Bender Burkot of Pollocksville. Mary Jo passed away on April 17, 2011. Susan's spirit will be blessed to join her mother and grandparents Josephine & Frank Bender and Velma & A.R. Burkot in heaven.

Susan is survived by her father, Jerry Burkot and sisters, Barbra Beth Copeland (Bill) of New Bern and Wendy Goins (Randy) of Winterville. She also leaves behind five nieces and nephews: Alex Goins, Madison Copeland, Morgan Copeland, Austin Goins and Ray Copeland along with numerous lifelong friends who adored her.

Susan was an extremely gifted artist, writer and teacher. Her loving, giving nature and effusive sweet spirit will be missed by many who loved her dearly. Susan graduated from New Bern High School in 1994 and went on to receive a degree in Elementary Education at University of North Carolina, Wilmington. She inspired us with her creativity in jewelry making and her passion for poetry and animals.
