NEW BERN - Mildred Knoche Denham, aged 100, died on May 25, 2012, at Homeplace of New Bern. She was born in Martin City, Missouri, to Susie and Albert Knoche. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles T. Denham; her daughter, Charlene Adamson; and her brother, Elmer Knoche. She is survived by two sons: Charles A. and his wife Carolyn, and Thomas J. Denham; son-in-law Richard Adamson; two grandchildren: Kristin Adamson and Kara Johnson and her husband, Brian; two great-granddaughters, Emma Charlene and Eliza Ann Johnson; one great-grandson, Cameron Ross Johnson; her sister-in-law, Helen Knoche; and many nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Denham was active until the end in several organizations. She was a life member of the Southeastern Region of Garden Clubs, the First United Methodist Church Women's Group, the Cherry Point Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the National Federation of State Garden Clubs, the North Carolina Federation of Garden Clubs, and the Cherry Point Garden Club.
She taught elementary grades in Missouri, Maryland and North Carolina. She retired from Civil Service at MCAS Cherry Point as a management analyst.
Her love of butterflies, hummingbirds and gardening, along with crafts, needlework and civic projects was evident throughout her life.
Memorial Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 324 Miller Blvd, Havelock, on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ed Gunter officiating. The family will be available at the Church from 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern.
