ELM CITY - Mildred Lilley Greene, 92, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, at Wilson Memorial Service, followed by burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wilson Memorial Service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis Greene in 1999; son-in-law, Barney Harrell; grandson, Barney B. Harrell; parents, Herman and Sadie Lilley; sisters, Evelyn Colon, Helen Carraway, Verna Lee Mullins, Sally Moore, Betty Mosley and Sue Britt; brother, John Lilley.
'Mis Mildred was born in Pitt County and graduated from Fountain High School where she was a member of the Beta Club and girls basketball team. She married Mr. Alvis in 1939 and they were married nearly 60 years at the time of his death. She was a long time active member of Wilbanks Christian. Even after his death, she continued to live in their Penders Crossroads home until declining health made it necessary to move to Spring Arbor in Wilson and later to WilMed Nursing Care Center where she died.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Reed (Leon) of Wilson and Margaret Harrell of Arapahoe; son, Thomas Greene (Dianne) of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Sarah Ellis Gay (Scott) of Wilson, Blake Harrell and Christina Harrell of Arapahoe, Lorri Bondurant (Rick) of Hampton, VA, Melissa Dunsmore (Randy) of Newport News, VA; great-grandchildren, Rylan and Ellison Gay, Cheyne Greene, Sam and Nick Harrell, Lleyton and Noah Dunsmore; sisters, Annie Moye Daughtridge of Rocky Mount and Lou Wooten of Newport News, VA; brother, William Lilley of Chesapeake, VA; special niece, Genia Owens of Elm City.
The family will be at the home of Kathy and Leon Reed, 4907 Pebble Beach Circle, N, Wilson.
