NEW BERN, N.C. - Mr. Ralph Vernon Brooks, Sr., 83, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family.

A native of Mobile, Ala., Ralph entered the United States Marine Corps, following graduation from high school. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and later retired, after 31 years, from Carolina Telephone & Telegraph/Sprint.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Oneida East Brooks and Alfred H. Brooks; his brother, Alfred H. Brooks, Jr., and his sister, Lenore Young Brooks.

Per his request, Ralph will be cremated and a memorial service will be at a later date. The family will receive friends at the home and those wishing to offer words of hope or condolences may visit www.pollockbest.com.

Ralph leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Sara Dillahunt Brooks, of the home; his daughter, Terry Sinnett Crump and husband John, of Colerain, N.C.; son, R. Vernon Brooks, Jr., and wife Laura, of Jasper, N.C.; and a sister, Ann B. Darwin, of Foley, Ala.. He also is survived by his grandson John Sinnett and wife Tanis, and their daughter, Tayte Elizabeth; granddaughter, Sarah Sinnett; step-granddaughters, Mary A. Hawley; Cindy Anderson Seymour, and husband Mark; and two step-great granddaughters, Hayli and Jordan Willis.

The Brooks Family is being assisted by Pollock-Best Funerals and Cremations.
