Shirley was a loving Mother, Nana, Sister, and Friend to many. She loved and gave without any expectations. She was a wonderful cook through whom many were fed along the way. Shirley worked at J.P. Stevens & Co. Inc., for over three decades and retired from Renfro Company. She loved her family and her town of Whitmire.
Shirley is survived by brothers, Charles W. (Barbara) Gilliam, of Whitmire, and Danny C. (Lynn) Gilliam, of Little Mountain; son, Martin Scott (Ladonna) Dickert, of Whitmire; daughters, Jennifer Dickert (Milt) Gold, of New Bern, N.C., and Kelsey Dickert (Paul) Rowe, of Newberry; grandsons, Josh Rowe, of Newberry, S.C., Martin Dickert, of Whitmire, S.C., Nick Putnam, of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughters, Amanda Dickert, Robin Alexander, and Shelby Dickert, all of Whitmire, S.C.; grandson, Daniel Rowe, of Newberry, S.C., and 4 great-grandchildren.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, James C. Gilliam and Addie Mae Hurd and Virginia Garmon Gilliam, and brother, L.E. Gilliam.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 7, at 4 p.m. at God's Healing Springs Baptist Church. Visitation will be Sunday night, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home in Whitmire, S.C. The family will receive friends at the home of Paul and Kelsey Rowe, at 16080 U.S. Highway 176, Newberry, S.C. Reverends Wayne Tobias and Paul Rowe will be officiating. Active pallbearers will be Josh Rowe, Martin Dickert, Nick Putnam, Tony Dickert, Ryan Gilliam, and Louie Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Wicker, Chris Goodman and Dustin Welch. Burial will follow in the Whitmire Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Assoc. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.grayfuneralhome.com Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire.
