NEW BERN - Sallie Ipock Kornegay passed away peacefully Thursday, November 28, 2013. Sallie was born on June 13, 1921 in Craven County. Her parents, George Luther and Cora Kilpatrick Ipock, raised their daughter along with three brothers and one sister in Asbury. She was a graduate of Jasper High School and worked many years as a dental assistant with Dr. Harvey Civils and Dr. Roy Taylor.
Sallie was married to Fountain P. Kornegay for 65 years and raised two sons, Gary and Rickey, in New Bern. She and Fountain were active participants in functions sponsored by the Masons and Shriners. They were both avid fresh- and salt-water fishermen. Sallie was also an exceptional cook and their home was often filled with family and friends enjoying food and fellowship.
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Fountain; her brothers, George, John and Linwood Ipock; and her sister, Maxine Overby. She is survived by her sons, Gary and Rickey; her daughters-in-law, Phyllis and Deborah; and four grandchildren, Kevin, Haven, Keith, and Lauren. She is also survived by eleven nephews and seven nieces.
The family would like to give thanks to the staff of Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to 3HC Hospice Care for the loving care and support that they provided to Sallie during her last weeks of life. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Lakeside Chapel in Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive guests following the service at the fellowship hall of Asbury United Methodist Church, 1789 Asbury Rd, Cove City.
