AVON PARK, Fla. - Thomas Isaiah Hulen, 64, a native of Craven County, died April 2, 2014, in Sebring, Fla.
He graduated from Newbold High School in 1966 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of Deliverance Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Clewiston, Fla. for 26 years and in 2001 he became a member of Greater Love C.O.G.I.C. where his father was pastor.
His service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Antioch Church of God in Christ, 1320 Carolina Avenue, Avon Park, Fla. with Ardis W. Jackson, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will take place on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Mandy A. Hulen of the home; three sons, Royal A. Taylor of Sebring. Fla., James L. II of Avon Park, Fla., and Thomas Jr.; one daughter, Alicia Warren of Avon Park, Fla.; a brother, Curtis R. Hulen of New Bern; 10 grandchildren; and stepmother, Arnetta G. Hulen of Avon Park, Fla.
