DURHAM - Virginia Marie Evans, 64, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, after a 10-year battle with cancer. Ginnie was born in Quantico, Va., on April 25, 1949, to the late Wilbur Fisk Evans, Jr. and Margaret Louise Hawkins Evans.
Ginnie worked as a respected IT Professional for the University of North Carolina until she retired in 2007. She loved to travel – her favorite destination lately was Williamsburg, Virginia! She was a budding watercolorist and enjoyed perusing antique shows and pottery exhibits. She loved her family and her many friends, and she enjoyed movies, the theater, and fellowship times over dinner – she always loved trying new foods!
But more than anything, Ginnie loved the Lord. Her passion for God and His Word was an inspiration to all who knew her. During the 10 years she battled cancer, her mission field was Duke Hospital, where she gently and compassionately witnessed to others, and comforted them in their shared struggle. Ginnie was a faithful member of Cresset Baptist Church, where she served for more than 12 years.
Ginnie is survived by her brother, Mike Evans and his wife, Joy, of New Bern.
A celebration of Ginnie's life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Cresset Baptist Church, 3707 Garrett Road, Durham, North Carolina, 27707, with Reverend Jon Glass officiating.
