NEW BERN - Walter Edward Collier Jr., 94, of New Bern, died March 20, 2013, at home, after a 25 year courageous battle with cancer.

He served our country in the U.S. Army and the Air Force during WWII and Korea. He was a member of the Gold Prospectors of America and the NRA. His interest included treasure hunting, fishing, hunting and collecting coins.

Mr. Collier is survived by his wife, Marie Lee Collier; one son, Ian B. Collier; one daughter, Sharon Collier Wheer; and one granddaughter, Lindsay Collier.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Cotten Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
