NEW BERN - Rev. William R. "Willie" Smith, 90, died Thursday, October 3, 2013.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro. Burial will follow in the Morris Family Cemetery.

Mr. Smith, a native of Craven County, was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was employed with civil service at Cherry Point as an aircraft mechanic and was also employed as a commercial fisherman. In 1975, he became a licensed minister and pastored various Assemblies of God churches. He was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda S. Jones; son, William David Smith, both of New Bern; grandchildren, Cathy, Teresa and Karen Jones; great-grandchildren, Savannah Jones and Parker Shilstone; and brothers, Linwood Earl Smith, Lee Roy Smith, Edward Smith, Kenneth Smith, and Dalton Smith.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Vanceboro.
