Havelock - Johnnie D. Burtscher, 85, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014.

He served in the US Marine Corps for 30 years during Vietnam and Korean eras, retiring as Major. He was a member and past master of Cherry Point Masonic Lodge and Newport Masonic Lodge, 33rd degree Mason and a member of Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shrine, Jesters and had served as Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star. He was a volunteer with hospice and a member of First United Methodist Church in Havelock.

He is survived by two sons, Johnnie D. Burtscher II of Havelock and Mark C. Burtscher of Carolina Pines; and two grandsons, Alexander C. Burtscher and Ryan C. Burtscher. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Carter Burtscher.

The family will have a visitation at Pollock-Best Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16. Graveside service, with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be 12 Noon Monday, March 17, with Reverend William A. Boykin officiating at The Lakeside Chapel At Greenleaf Memorial Park.
