NEW BERN - Mrs. Regina Jeanette Duncan Apperson, 40, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014. A native of New Bern, Regina was a member of Temple Baptist Church, and enjoyed the beach, gardens and blooming flowers. She is now in God's Garden. She was a Brownie and a Girl Scout in her younger years and graduated from New Bern High School, where she was a member of the New Bern Marching Band. Regina continued her education at ECU, graduating with her Master's Degree in Public Administration. She worked at MCAS Cherry Point at the Management Engineering Office. She later worked for the US Air Force at the Pentagon. Regina retired from the Department of Agriculture, in Washington, DC. While in the Nation's Capitol, she was lucky enough to meet two US Presidents. When not at work, you could find her with her "babies", her cats, Sabrina and Layla.
A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Maurice Phelps officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Those wishing to offer condolences may visit www.pollockbest.com.
Regina is survived by her husband, Robert Steven Apperson; mother, Betty Ann Smyer and husband Richard Sr.; father, Joel K. Duncan Sr. and wife Sharon; her sister, Jody Lewis Smith and fiancé John Guthrie; and her brother, Joel K. Duncan Jr. and wife Stephanie. She also leaves behind her in-laws, Bob and Gloria Apperson; grandma, Joni Acosta; step-sisters, Karen Harper and Debbie Hill; and her step-brother, Richard "Rick" Smyer Jr. Regina was also an aunt to Christopher Lee Guthrie, James Robert Lewis, William Alexander Smith; and great-aunt to Mika, Rihanna, and Jonathan.
