NEW BERN | Helen Jean Golden, 64, of New Bern, died May 15, 2014 at the Kitty Askins Hopice Center in Goldsboro.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She graduated from New Bern High School, Hardbarger Business College, Carteret Community College and she retired from Civil Service. She was a member of Croatan Presbyterian Church, the Township 6 Fire Department, and the Ladies Auxiliary. Helen was also a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames 17th Century Samuel Swan Chapter. She was the state chairman of the DAR magazine, a member of the state by-laws committee, National Speakers Staff and the chairman of the state newsletter. She served as the District 9 and 15 director and she was the Chapter Regent of the Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter in New Bern. The State Society was the recipient of numerous national awards due to the service of Helen Seals Golden. She is preceded in death by her father, Allan A. Seals.
Helen is survived by her husband Gregory, two daughters, Roxanne Leigh Parrish of Ellerslie, GA; Brandee June Ridgway of New Bern; two brothers, Allan Seals, Jr. of Connecticut; and Clifford Seals of New Bern; three sisters, Diana Wood of New Bern; Loretta Potts of Cape Carteret; Ruth Andersen of New Bern; and three grandchildren, Samuel Wentz, Breanna and Ella Ridgway.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, May 19, 2014 at Croatan Presbyterian Church.
