NEW BERN | Bonnie Jane Minton Woody, 87, of New Bern, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at her home surrounded by her children. Born in St. Johns, NC, she grew up in Aulander, the only child of Leon and Bessie Minton. In August 1946, she married Thomas "Ed" Woody following his discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps at the end of WWII. Shortly thereafter, they made their home in New Bern where they enjoyed 67 years of marriage before Ed passed away in March of 2013. She was a charter member of National Avenue Baptist Church and in later years became an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Bonnie loved to read and she shared that love with her children, granddaughter and great granddaughter. She is lovingly remembered by her children as the best Mom in the world and by all who knew her as one of the sweetest people they had ever known.
