VANCEBORO | Esther Arlene Tripp Coward, 84, of 2100 Bear Hole Road, Vanceboro, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Pruitt HealthCare-Neuse Campus.

She was a native of the Goose Creek Community of Grantsboro. Her membership at Queen Chapel FWB Church included serving as a Mother, former Secretary of the Deaconess Board, President Pastor's Aide Committee, Asst. Superintendant Sunday School, Home Mission Society. Her civic duties were performed as a member of the Order of Eastern Star #57.
Arlene was previously employed by Coastal Progress, Vanceboro Garment factory and served as manager of the Head Start Program at Vanceboro Community Center.
Her funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at Queen Chapel FWB Church, 216 Bailey Lane, Vanceboro with the Reverend Dr. Charles Sims Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Ewell Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd L. Coward Sr. of the home; six daughters, Velma Jefferson of the home, Lily Clark of Clinton, Md.; Mary Campbell of Vanceboro, NC, Vanessa Pugh of New Bern, NC, Cynthia Coward of Cheverly, Md., Shirlene Segura of Silver Spring, Md.; and one son, Lloyd L. Coward Jr. of Fort Washington, Md.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; five sister-in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she dearly loved.
Ritualistic service will be conducted by the OES #57 at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Oscar's Mortuary followed by visitation of friends and viewing until 6:30 p.m. A viewing will be held on Monday at Queen Chapel Free Will Baptist Church an hour prior to the service.
