NEW BERN | Virginia Moffett Yowell, born Sept. 10, 1925, of New Bern, N.C., formerly of Dayton, Va. died Monday, August 18, 2014.

Virginia was a graduate of Madison College and taught in Martinsville, Va. and Rockingham County schools. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was a former member of Dayton United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, hospital volunteer and extraordinary cook. Virginia enjoyed helping her husband Carl restore antique cars. She was a woman of strong faith who dedicated her time and talents to enrich the lives of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, William C. Yowell, who she was married to for 64 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Yowell Pennington and son-in-law Alan Pennington and son, Robert Stuart Yowell, all of New Bern, N.C.; a brother, Henry Moffett and sister-in-law, Betty Y. Kindig, both of Waynesboro, Va. She is also survived by three grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wed. Aug. 20, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 at Clear Spring Homestead, 5603 West Dry River Road, Dayton, Va. A graveside service will be held Thurs. Aug. 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Dayton Cemetery.
