Robert C. Heller


Ret. CSM Robert C. Heller, 65, died on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, in Chapel Hill.

Born in Johnstown, Pa., he was a 1963 graduate of St. Clair High School, served in the U.S. Navy, a laborer at Kraft Foods Inc. in Allentown, Pa., CSM in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard which included deployment to Operation Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia, and worked for Family Assistance Center, Philadelphia, Pa., before retiring to North Carolina. Bob joined the Lower Macungie Fire Department in Wescosville, Pa., as a fire safety officer and helped with the children's fire prevention activities. During retirement, he was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2004 as FSO-CS and volunteered at Wild Animal Rescue Center.

He is survived by his wife, Gail; mother, Vivian Heller of Emmaus, Pa.; two sons, Christopher Heller of Enfield, Conn., and Mark Heller of Wescosville, Pa.; and one granddaughter.

A military memorial service will be held at a later date at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
