NEW BERN - David Samuel Pugh Sr. 90, passed away on May 16, 2011, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

He proudly served his country in the Unites States Army and served two tours of duty during WWII. David was a member and an elder of Broad Street Christian Church. He was a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 3, AF & AM where he was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, the New Bern Shrine Club and the Eastern Star. For 47 years, David worked as a conductor for the Norfolk & Southern Railroad.

David is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lois Hancock Pugh; one son, David Samuel Pugh Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and his significant other Cindy Alexander; two grandsons, David Pugh III and his wife, Jan, of Fayetteville and Edwin Pugh and his wife, Laura, of Raleigh; and three great-granddaughters, Hudson Pugh, Katie Pugh and Molly Pugh. He is also survived by members of the extended Pugh and Hancock families.

Funeral services and Masonic Rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel with the Reverend Reece Jones officiating. A visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Cotten Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in David's memory to Broad Street Christian Church Youth Ministries, 802 Broad Street, New Bern, NC 28560.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kenneth Wilkins and the staff of the fourth floor at CarolinaEast Medical Center for their excellent care.
