Josie Mae Banks Smith


NEW BERN - Josie Mae Banks Smith, 63, of 3205 Deer Path Circle, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at her residence.

She was a native of Florida and a resident of New Bern for over 20 years. She was employed at Moen and was a member of Full Gospel Outreach Ministries.

Her funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Holt's Chapel AME Zion Church, 2911 Kershaw Rd., Oriental, with the Rev. L. Shannon Sabsook officiating and the Rev. Irvin Hickman, eulogist. Burial is Monday, Nov.19, 2012, at Stewart Memorial Cemetery, Geneva, Fla.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Stacy Smith Sr. of the home; one daughter, Shawn Banks of Springfield, Mass.; her mother, Juanita Banks of Geneva, Fla.; three brothers, Alvin Godette of Springfield, Mass., Walter Godette of Connecticut and Ozie Banks of Savannah, Ga.; seven sisters, Claretha Coleman and Octavia Martin of Oviedo, Fla., Sylvia Stringer of Winter Springs, Fla., Rillie Brown and Michelle Sutton of Orlando, Fla., Deborah Graves of Geneva, Fla., and Veronica Jones of Winter Park, Fla.; five stepsons, Joe Jones of Columbia, S.C., Danny Smith and Eric Smith of Greensboro, Jay Smith and Stacy Smith Jr. of New Bern; three stepdaughters, Constance Jackson and La' Keisha Richards, both of New Bern and Alma Harris of Charlotte; 33 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Oscar's Mortuary and other times at the residence.
