NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - As we celebrated Veteran's Day, Monday, November 12, 2012, God called home one of his heroes, MSGT Willard Frizzelle Lancaster. He was born on June 29, 1918 in Ayden, NC. Willard graduated from Farmlife High School. Willard is a longtime Newport News resident, first coming here in 1942 to work at Newport News Shipyard. In 1944, he joined the Army and retired after 24 years of service. He spent his entire Army career at Ft. Eustis during which he deployed to Korea, the Philipines, and the Dominican Republic. After his Army retirement, he went on to a civil service career at McDonald Army Hospital. Upon retirement from there he enjoyed gardening, rooting for NC basketball and spending time with friends and family. Throughout his life, he has loved animals and was devoted to his pets.

Willard was preceded in death by his parents, Willie S. and Ada Ewell Lancaster and his sister, Hilda Thomas. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Chelcy; his sons, Douglas and Jeffery; his daughters –in-law, Mary and Linette; granddaughter, Logan; niece, Pam Viens and family and nephew, Stephen Hill and family.

The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m., Saturday, November 17, at Stevens Memorial Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News with full military honors.
