Constance "Connie" Linda Emory Rockwell of New Bern, N.C., left this earth to be with her Lord in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Oriental, N.C., on July 15, 1933, to Charles and Malinda Bateman Emory, Connie spent most of her adult life helping run her and her husband's farm in Corinna, Maine, helping pick over a million dozen eggs a year. There she lived a simple life that warmly embraced the church and the nurturing of her family, before returning home to New Bern in 1982.
Connie will be remembered for the many loving years she spent serving her precious Lord, while always remembering her family and many others in prayer. She enjoyed the times spent in her husband's plane, looking at the scenery and fall foliage. She spent many hours working on the farm, and found such joy in caring for her children and grandchildren. Most of all she will be remembered for the unwavering love that accompanied every action, word and thought for those in her life. She was very self-sacrificing and was always giving and caring for others.
She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Edgar Rockwell; sons, Eddie and Daniel; daughters, Lisa Parker and Wendy Waters; nine grandchildren: Sherri Nobles, Terri Martin, Valerie Dawson, Angela Foley, Garrett and Amanda Waters, Joshua Rockwell, Sam Rockwell and Juanita Pringle; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and four sisters, Inez Riley, Sara Purington, Beulah Duke and Annette Earp. Her family represents her indelible contribution to this world.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday between 5:30 and 7 p.m., just prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Connie Rockwell Endowment Fund, c/o Calvary Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1089, New Bern, N.C. 28563.
