Obituary

NEW BERN - Lula Jane Koonce Harris, 93, of 1602 Hazel Ave., died Monday, March 4, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

She was born in Jacksonville and was a resident of New Bern for more than eighty years. She volunteered for The American Cancer Society, Heart Association, Feed the Children, received the Headstart Parent Volunteer Award and The Neuse- Pamlico Sound Women's Coalition Lamplighter's Award for strength in Christian character and motherhood. She was a member and mother at Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Her funeral is 1 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at West Street Christian Church with the Rev. R.E. Midgette, pastor, and the Rev. Sheila Downs, eulogist. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

She is survived by her two sons, Rigdon Harris of Neshanic, N.J. and Paul Harris of New Bern; four daughters, Patricia White of Garner, Sharon Bizzell Greene of New Bern, Sheila Downs of Columbus, Ga. and Denise Powell of New Bern; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Oscar's Mortuary and other times at the residence of Chandler and Denise Powell, 1703 Oscar Drive.
