VERNON, N.Y. - Nancy I. Lather, 74, of Black Avenue West, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, April 5, 2013, in the Oneida Healthcare Center with her loving family at her side.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1938, in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late Benjamin and Isabell (Casey) Newell.

She was a graduate of Vincentian Institute. On Nov. 18, 1961, Nancy and Ronald E. Lather were united in marriage in St. Teresa's Church in Albany, N.Y. Nancy was a member of Holy Family Church of Vernon. She enjoyed homemaking, her profession of love. She also enjoyed travel, sunshine, cooking, music and spending time with family and friends at home or in the casino.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Ronald E. Lather of Vernon, N.Y.; two sons, Ronald (Trish) Lather of New Bern and Robert (Tracy) Lather of Chesterfield, Va.; two daughters, Cindy Wheeler (Michael) of Valatie, N.Y. and Linda Gould (John) of Morehead City; two brothers, Robert (Sue Ann) Newell of St. Louis, Mo. and David Newell of Albany, N.Y.; one sister, Susan Dey (William) of Winter Park, Fla. She loved 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Katherine, Audrey, Ellen and Joseph Gould; Emma, Margaret, Madeline and Logan Lather; Zachary, Drew and Nathan Lather; John and Timothy Wheeler; and Kirsten Kelly (Brandon) Wiggins and her children, Luca and Micah.

She is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Nancy is predeceased by her son, Andrew Lather in 1987 and her sister, Barbara Legler in 2010.

In keeping with Nancy's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial mass was held on Monday, April 8, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Peterboro Street, Vernon, N.Y. The family will hold a private burial.

In gratitude for Nancy's superb and heartfelt care, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the Oneida Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 705, Oneida, N.Y. 13421.
