Phillip Harley Babcock


ALEXANDRIA, Va. - On April 11, 2013, Phillip Harley Babcock died on Thursday, April 11, 2013.

He was a 1974 graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. He attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and Benjamin Franklin University. He joined the Smithsonian Institution in 1963 and retired in 1992 as the director of Office of Risk Management. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, American Legion, and Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Eastwood Babcock, formerly of Alliance; his children, Phillip H. Babcock Jr. and Victoria Lynn Babcock O'Toole and one granddaughter, all of Virginia.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Wrenn Clarke & Hagen Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery.
