GREENVILLE - Mr. Carl Henry Tyndall, 59, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 after a brave fight with cancer.

Private services will be held with close family and friends.

Mr. Tyndall, a native of Craven County, had been a resident of Greenville for the past 38 years as the founder and owner of Carolina Ortho Prosthetics.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carlton Croom Tyndall and step-father, Charlie William Benfield.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Tyndall of Greenville; mother, Inge Benfield Spaar and husband, Max, of New Bern; daughter, Sarah Tyndall of Boston, Mass.; son, Carlton Tyndall of Vanceboro; step-daughters, Jessica Conway Tabor and husband, Bradley, of Vanceboro, and Erika Conway Brown and husband, Tyler, of Wilkesboro; siblings, Pete Benfield of Cary, Martha Ann Secor and husband Gene of Newnan, Ga., Carol Ann Jarman and husband John of New Bern, Ron Benfield and wife Pam of Statesville, Bonnie Ramsey and husband Ricky of Garner, Connie Lorraine and husband Jim of Jetersville, Va., Denise Kirkland and husband Jim of Raleigh, and Christina Pearson and husband Kurt of Mebane; and numerous cherished family and friends.

Carl was a spirited man who was loved by anyone who knew him and he never met a stranger. He was devoted to his friends and family and enjoyed spending time with them. One of his favorite avocations was spending any of his free time on the water fishing and captaining his boat "Sea Mate". He was passionate about his patients and was dedicated to making a positive impact on each of their lives. Creating wood masterpieces was a favorite hobby and he spent countless hours making keepsake pieces for friends and family.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Vidant Medical Center who provided the most excellent care during our brief stay. Our thanks to the ED staff, Ron RN, Dr. Wilson, and Dr. Garry. We also thank Dr. Moran, Dr. Jacob, Lisa Darby PA, Dr. Ingbert, and Chaplain Fambrough of CVIU and CICU along with the competent and compassionate staff. We appreciate all of the exceptional care provided by Dr. Lee, Dr. Ballanger, Dr. Mathews, and Dr. Lindbeck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Barbara Tyndall/Carl Tyndall Charitable Account at Bank of America with donations shared between NC Marine Fisheries, Vidant Medical Center , and Vidant Health Inpatient Hospice House.
