IRMO — The homegoing service for Philip Brooks will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Fort Jackson Main Post Chapel (4580 Scales Avenue, Fort Jackson) with burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home (2930 Colonial Drive, Columbia) has been entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation for Mr. Brooks will be held this evening at the funeral home from 6-7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at 2207 Emory Street, Newberry, SC.
Philip was born in Newberry to the late Reverend Israel Brooks, Sr. and Mattie Louise DeWalt Brooks. He passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home. He was 66.
In 1966, Philip graduated from Gallman High School in Newberry County. He went on to receive degrees from both Midlands Technical College Benedict College in Columbia, SC. He served honorably in the United States Army for three years, completing a tour in Vietnam and earning a Bronze Star. At the time of retirement in 2007, he was the Fleet Safety Manager with the South Carolina Department of Transportation Safety Office.
He is survived by his devoted companion, Betty Mozee; his sisters: Hulda A. Brooks, Charlotte P. Granville, Synita (Thomas) Revels, Delphena Brooks and Mattie D. Brooks; an aunt, Elnora Douglas; a sister-in-law, Barbara Gallman; and other loving relatives and friends.
