NEWBERRY — Joseph Alvin Jackson, 92, widower of Margie Rebecca Jackson, died Sunday, September 2, 2018, at his residence.

Born on November 29, 1925, in Chester, he was a son of the late Joseph Albert and Jessie Pearl Boyd Jackson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having served on the USS Davis as a gunner. He proudly served his country during the D-Day invasion in Normandy. Mr. Jackson retired from the City of Newberry as the supervisor of maintenance. He was a member of Colony Lutheran Church and Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Newberry Country Club, was a member of the 40 & 8 and served as Commander of the American Legion for five years and was a volunteer fireman for thirty years. He found great pleasure in traveling throughout the country.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his special friend, Tresey Longshore; his son, Ron A. (Natalie) Jackson; sisters, Jeannette Williams, Barbara Lee, Geraldine Shaw and Dorothy Jackson; a brother, Homer Jackson; grandchildren, Anna (Kevin) Neal and Brooke (Eric) Wall; great-grandchildren, Charlie Neal, Owen Neal, George Wall and Margaret Anna Wall due in November. He was predeceased by a great-grandson, Jackson Blair and sisters, Ruby Wicker, Robin Knox and Loretta Wicker.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Colony Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jerry Trantham. Memorials may be made to Colony Lutheran Church General Fund, 48 Colony Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
