PROSPERITY — Luther Evans "Buster" Bowers, 72 of Prosperity died August 30, 2018 at his residence.

Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Clemson Eugene and Lola Mae Morgan Bates.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from CSX Transportation. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Jane Brown Bowers; daughters, Tracy Michelle Bowers Bledsoe and husband Chuck of Lexington and Elizabeth Ann Bowers Weaver and her husband Dan of Lexington; a brother, Wilbur Otis Bates Jr. of Prosperity; sisters, Jeanette Bowers Anderson of Batesburg-Leesville, Barbara Bowers Livingston of Prosperity, June Bates Nichols of Batesburg-Leesville, and Wanda Bates Brewer of Prosperity; and Grandchildren, Hunter Evan Moore, Evan Troy Weaver, Hadley Grace Weaver and Chase Haring Weaver.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Wilbur Otis Bates Sr.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
