WASHINGTON D.C. — Funeral services for Mr. Charles Herbert "Blue" Sligh, will be conducted on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Welch Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Sligh passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014. He was born in Newberry, South Carolina to Bernice Sligh and the late A. W. Sligh. He was educated in Newberry County Public Schools. Mr. Sligh relocated to the Washington Metropolitan area in 1964. He worked as a carpenter for several companies until 1982 and was hired in 1996 by Driggs Corporation and worked there until he retired in December 2013.
Mr. Sligh was predeceased by a daughter, Bennie Mae Nance; three brothers, Otis, Eugene and Willie Sligh.
Surviving are his loving mother, Bernice Sligh of Newberry, SC; devoted friend, Betty J. Williams of Landover, MD; children, Derita E. Thornton of Suitland, MD; Jacqueline Nance of Concord, NC; Laronn Burton of Hyattsville, JD; sister, Daisy Mae Washington (Larry) of Columbia, SC; aunt, Katie Sligh of Washington, DC; ten grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, special friends, Leroy and Andrea Rembert of Forestville, MD; James Bond of Landover, MD; a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Mrs. Bernice Sligh, 311 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC.
