Viola Burnside

NEWBERRY — Funeral services for Mrs. Viola Thacker Burnside will be conducted on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. at New Enoree Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Burnside passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Viola Clamp Thacker. She was a faithful member of New Enoree Baptist Church and Women's Home Aid Society #27. Mrs. Burnside retired from McKechnie (Thompson International) in June 1997.

Mrs. Burnside was predeceased by her husband, Lenwood Burnside; brothers, Floyd Thacker, Jr., Simmie Thacker, Henry Thacker Thacker; sisters, Carrie Thacker, Clara T. Scott, Elizabeth T. Johnson and Sallie Thacker Sims.

Surviving are one brother, Willie Robert Thacker of Ridgeway, SC; two sons, Frank Burnside (Mammie) of Newberry, SC; John Burnside (Mary Lee) of Whitmire, SC; three daughters, Daphne Ruff (Sammie); Jacqueline Burnside (Ed), Pirlee Shippy (John) all of Newberry, SC; eleven grandchildren, Gretta Richard (Tony) of Laurens, SC; Clinton Burnside (Angela) of Maryland; Isaac Burnside (Keisha); Michael Burnside, Cleo Burnside (Kima), Falina Burnside, Nikita Burnside (Michael), Jamarrian Henley all of Newberry, SC; John Burnside, Jr., Christian Burnside and Blake Chick of Whitmire, SC; devoted friends, Lucille Trapp of Blair, SC; Laura Maybin and Barbara Jean Nelson of Newberry, SC; 18 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Burnside will be missed by everyone who cared and loved her dearly.

The family will be receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Pirlee Shippy (John) at 165 Valley Road, Newberry, SC.
