NEWBERRY — Phillip Allen Watson, 55, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 15, 1958, in Greenville, he was the son of Rosa Watson Ellis and the late Edward Ellis. He was a member of the Original Drifters serving as a musician with the group for over 20 years, an Army veteran and a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Watson is survived by his mother, Rosa Ellis of Newberry; sons, Daniel Adam (Brandy) Watson of Prosperity and Joshua Logan Watson of Saluda and a granddaughter, Tessa Annabeth Watson and his companion, Kim Bennett of Irmo. He was predeceased by a sister, Wanda Watson.

A gathering of friends will be Tuesday, April 1, 2014, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church, 1105 First Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
