NEWBERRY — Elizabeth Reighley DeHart, 93, of Newberry, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at White Oak Manor.

Born on Oct. 14, 1920 in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late David Alan and Willie Mae Shannon Reighley.

Mrs. DeHart was a graduate of the Newberry High School Class of 1940. She retired after 19 years as Cottage Parent from the Whitten Center and later volunteered in their Grandparent Program.

She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Lucy Epps (Fellowship) Sunday School Class.

Mrs. DeHart loved her yard work, especially her flowers. She enjoyed regular adventures to the woods and the creeks to gather stones and drift wood to make her garden beds. If Mrs. DeHart had so much as a spoon of dirt, she had something beautiful growing in that dirt.

She valued taking care of her family. She served as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Grade Parent in the schools. She kept a loving home and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was a treasured mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly D. and Johnnie Pitts of Silverstreet; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry B. and Margaret DeHart of Pomaria, and Bobby C. and Debra Matthews DeHart of Newberry; brother, Meredith "Med" "Cotton" (Betty) Reighley of Newberry; grandchildren, Denise Pitts of Newberry, Johnny Pitts, Jr. and Bridget (Michael) Bouknight all of Silverstreet, Libby (Shane) Wessinger of Chapin, Susannah Price of Charleston, and Brittany (Chuck) Bishop of Newberry; great-grandchildren, Taylor Bouknight, Kruz Bouknight, Chase Wessinger, Luke Wessinger, and Piper Bishop; sister-in-law, Jean Reighley; nieces and nephews; and dear devoted friends, Carolyn Sanders, Mildred Sligh, and Margie Matthews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence B. DeHart; sisters, Brunelle Hall and Sara Reighley Morris, and brother, Alan Reighley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Karen Radcliffe, the Rev. Thomas Byrd, and the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
