NEWBERRY — Funeral service for Mrs. Gracie Mae "Macy" Ruff Edwards will be conducted on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Mark AME Church cemetery.
Mrs. Edwards passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. Born in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Goree and the late Mary L. Ruff Goree Sims. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she was a member of the Gospel Choir and Missionary. She was also the "Mother of the Newberry Pirates."
Mrs. Edwards was predeceased by a brother, Carl M. Ruff.
Surviving are her husband, Johnnie Fleming "Buck" Edwards of the home; daughters, Linda Ruff Williams (Bernard); Doraine E. Sims (Eric) and Brittany Lynette Chapman; sons, Johnnie Calvin Edwards (Tammie), Carl Fleming Edwards (Faith), Thomas Leevon Edwards (Deborah); Godson, Rembert O'Neal Billie (Naomi); sisters, Mary Ann Mayers (Jeffery), Deloise Ruff, Ruby A. Cook and Gail J. Turner (Clarence) all of Newberry, SC; brothers, Willie Thomas Sims (Dorothy) of Peekskill, NY; Cleo Sims, Curtis L. Goree, Gary L. Goree, Russell L. Goree all of Newberry, SC; reared in the home as a brother, Wilbert Chaplin of Newberry, SC; Hayes E. Sims (Patricia) of Columbia, SC; twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four aunts, Dora H. Garmany, Marie Williams, Inez Livingston and Anna Frances Wise; one uncle, Floyd Sims of Newberry, SC; devoted friend and caregiver, Evonne Williams; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Heller, Margaret Heller and Dianne Caldwell; two brothers-in-law, Woodrow Heller and Jack Edwards, Jr.; devoted nieces, Angela Sims, Janice Sims, Alisha Travis and Alithia Cook Griffin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
