NEWBERRY — Mrs. Emma Alston died Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
She was born in Newberry County on May 23, 1917, to the late John and Elizabeth Toland. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
Mrs. Alston was a member of Little River Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir.
Mrs. Alston leaves to mourn her passing six daughters, Mrs. Lois (A.P.) Miller of Newberry, Mrs Hazel Sturkey of Clinton, Mrs. Quester West of Baton Rouge, La., Mrs. Dorothy (Arthur) Holmes of Columbia, Mrs. Emma Lee (Gene) Williams, and Mrs. Linda Davis of Newberry; two sons, James (Eleanor) Alston of Newberry and David (Margaret) Alston of Prosperity. Devoted grandsons, Trent Davis, Travis Davis and Darrell Alston, of Newberry, and Dominique Holmes of Columbia. Mrs. Alston has 21 grandchildren, 27 great grands, eight great-great grands and a host of other relatives and friends including a devoted family friend, Ms. Floria Sims.
