Thomas J. "Tom" Burton
SILVERSTREET — Thomas "Tom" Joseph Burton, 66, of Silverstreet died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1947 in Seymour, Ind., a son of the late Hass and Goldie Burton.
Tom was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and worked as a millwright and a welder for many years. He was a member of the SC Archaeological society and had a passion for Native American artifacts and culture.
Tom had an appreciation for all things in nature, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking his family on outdoor expeditions. He loved folk music and the Beetles. To his family, Tom was an intelligent, simple, selfless and generous man, but to Tom, his world was Tonya and Jacob.
He is survived by his daughter, Tonya B. Garland of Elgin; grandson, Jacob Garland of Elgin; sisters, Tammy Evans of Tenn., Kathy Stubblefield and Shasta Smiley, both of Ind., and Janie Haddock of Tenn.; and a brother, Bill Burton of Ind. He was predeceased by a brother, Jim Burton and the mother of his daughter, Donna Bush Burton Seeliger.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. Military honors will be rendered following the service.
