Helen Doscher Dunlap Douglass passed away peacefully on March 20, 2014. Helen is survived by her husband of 30 years and 10 days, Donald J. Douglass, founder of Alamo Group Inc. (ALG).
Helen was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 3, 1943. Her family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut in 1946 when she was 3. She graduated from New Canaan High School in 1961 and received her B.A.in Elementary Education in 1965 from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W. Virginia.
She taught 3rd grade from 1967-1968. She worked as a buyer and assistant manager of a ladies dress shop from 1973-1978. For 10 years Helen worked in the insurance industry for Dunlap Insurance Agency and Bailey Gosling where she developed the Employee Benefits Department for small groups. She was licensed by: The Aetna, Travelers, Principal Financial, Transamerica & Jefferson Pilot.
Helen was an active member of the Junior League of San Antonio, Texas and a former director of the Witte Museum of San Antonio, Texas, and President of the Douglass Foundation for charitable giving.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fenelon K. Doscher who was the Executive Vice President of Lily Tulip Cup Corp. for his working career and Martha D. Doscher who, for 25 years, was an executive secretary and retired from Smith Corona Corp.
She is survived by her children Scott Dunlap and wife Mia, Kimberly Dunlap, and grandson Samuel Fesko, all of San Antonio, Texas. Two brothers, Paul Doscher and wife Margo of Norwich, Vermont, John Doscher and wife Madeline of New Fairfield, Connecticut and sister Jean Purviance and husband David of Corvallis, Oregon.
Memorial services will be held in San Antonio, Texas at 11:00 A.M. on April 7th at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 315 E. Pecan Street. A reception will follow at The Argyle, 935 Patterson Avenue.
