John Buczek Obituary

Buczek Jr, John T.
John T. Buczek, Jr., 65, died unexpectedly Friday, November 15 at home. He was the husband of Sherry Buczek. Jack was born in New Milford on December 2, 1947, the son of Catherine Buczek and the late John Buczek. He graduated from New Milford High School and lived in New Milford his entire life except during his military tour. He was looking forward to retirement and spending time at his Florida home where he vacationed with his family and friends. A toolmaker by trade, Jack started his successful construction business over 30 years ago. He was a master craftsman and loved the challenge of each job, his interaction with his clients, and his many work associates whom he could count on to do the same quality work that he was known for. Jack had a passion for the outdoors and loved being in the woods. He immensely enjoyed hunting and fishing right up to the time of his passing. In his early years, he was an avid bowler and a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 58. He took up golf and was a former member of the Newtown Country Club and an active member of Heritage Village Country Club and Gator Trace Country Club where he and his wife spent many wonderful times with their golfing friends. Jack gave unselfishly of his time to the volunteer organizations he was passionate about. He was a long time member of the New Milford Lions Club, Managing Director of Harrybrooke Park, and life time member of the New Milford VFW. He formed many deep and lasting friendships through these organizations. Jack proudly served in Vietnam during 1968 & 1969 in the 101st Airborne Division. During his time in service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star and Air Medal. He was a true patriot who firmly believed in God, Country and Family. He held close to his heart the strong bond he continued to have with his small group of battle buddies who served next to him in Vietnam, and looked forward to their two year reunions. Jack will be deeply missed by his mother, Catherine, his wife and partner, Sherry and their two children, son Christopher Buczek of Sandy Hook, and daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Kennith Gerrish. He also leaves his first grandchild, McKenzie Gerrish, whom he cherished and was so looking forward to buying her first fishing pole. He is also survived by his sisters and brother-in-laws, Pat Nordling and husband, Dave of Florida and Maine, and Bernadette Foley and husband, Tom of West Hartford, CT, plus many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 21 at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, with a Memorial Service on Friday, November 22 at 11:00 am at the St. John's Episcopal Church on the Green in New Milford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Milford Lions Club, PO Box 894, New Milford, CT 06776; Harrybrooke Park, 10 Franks Lane, PO Box 364, New Milford, CT 06776; or the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 11 Avery Road, New Milford, CT 06776

Dear family,

My initial thoughts go out to you, on the loss of what is rarely seen these days, a very "decent" man. I feel the loss of a pillar to the community and a sense of an irreplaceable person in tune with the nature and the natural order of life. I feel fortunate to have had him in my life to recount stories and to make me feel that life does not have to be complicated, only people try to make things complicated. He has provided us with a gift of appreciation, for many things, but for me, especially in saving a precious life. I feel comforted in the knowledge that such a person will have a special place reserved for him, where he has eternal peace now.

We knew Jack as a master carpenter and craftsman. So lucky to have found a man who knew what he was doing to restore our home originally built circa 1810 in Washington Ct. Jack's approach was never to jump in but to analyze, ponder, think, calculate and then hit the ground running. My wife Janice and I were so impressed by his dedication, sincerity and honesty, qualities not necessarily too common in the construction trade. We shed our tears for a man living life to the fullest and for the family he loved.
