Alexander A. Andrews, 92, of Madison, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Rae-Ann in Geneva.
He was born June 5, 1921, in Cleveland, the son of Angelo and Mary Andrews, and married Evelyn Pepper on May 8, 1946, in Jackson, Miss.
A 1939 graduate of Collinwood High School, Mr. Andrews served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Geneva and a charter member of the American Legion Post 601 in Madison. He retired as a supervisor in 1985 from TRW. An avid sports fan, Al was a true family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren. Kind-hearted and generous, he enjoyed doing things for others.
Alexander is survived by his daughters, Marjorie Hartshorn and Pat (Jim) Roberts, both of Madison, and Cathy (John) Agapetus of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Al (Kathy Vanatta) Andrews of Madison; grandchildren, Lynn (Tony) Chicarell of Madison, Mark Hartshorn of Madison, Beth (Don) Durdella of Painesville, Jessica (Darren) Howard of Los Angeles, Calif., and Nichole (Josh) Andrews-Kujala of Madison; and great-grandchildren, Joey and Mia Durdella of Painesville, and Jacob, Ethan and Emma Kujala of Madison.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents; brothers, Nick, Steve, Jim and Georgie; and sisters, Georgia and Mary.
Friends will be received from 11 to noon Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, where funeral services will immediately follow at noon. Final resting place will be at North Madison Cemetery in Madison.
