Audrie Jean Akins

Audrie Jean Akins, 79, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 1, 2014, due to complications from a stroke.
Born in Elk Valley, Tenn., Audrie spent most of her life in Mentor prior to moving to Lakeland, Fla. More recently, she moved to Greensboro, N.C., to be near her daughter, Susan.
Audrie worked as a mentor with the public schools for over 20 years. She was a member of Mentor Church of God in Mentor and attended West Lakeland Church of God in Lakeland, Fla.
Audrie graduated from Buchtel High School in Akron. She was a kind and gentle soul, and was very proud of her family. Audrie loved to garden, cook and fish with the love of her life, Fred.
Audrie was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Akins in 2003.
Survivors include her sons, David Akins and Daniel Akins; daughter, Susan Pike; grandchildren, Jamie Akins, Michael Akins, Christopher Akins, Christiana Akins, Brad Akins, Colton Akins, Alie Akins, Jessica Pike, Jimmy Pike and Joshua Pike; great-grandchildren, Adeleigh Akins, Olivia Akins, Christian Akins and Reese Akins; and sister, Joyce Gupton.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Burial Park in Lakeland, Fla.
