Betty L. Patterson, age 91, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Salida Woods in Mentor after a long illness.
She is survived by her children, Christine (John) Roché and Charles (Sue) Patterson, Jr.; grandchildren, Julie (Jon) McGill, Jason Roché, Amy (Kuan Siew) Patterson and Molly (Andy Ball) Patterson; and great-grandson Erik Roché.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Patterson; parents, Henry and Lillian Heitzman; brother Robert Heitzman and many other dear family members and friends. Her two cats, Smokie and Tassie were her loving companions in her last years.
Born in Buffalo, New York in 1923 her family later moved to Willoughby, where she attended Willoughby South High School and then served in the Coast Guard stationed in Florida during World War II. She worked at Lubrizol Corporation and then as a bookkeeper for the family business. Betty and Charlie loved boating and were active members of the Chagrin Lagoons Yacht Club for many years before buying a home on Lake Erie in Eastlake where she lived for over 40 years. In her leisure time she enjoyed bird watching, gardening, playing golf, bowling, ceramics, quilting, crossword puzzles, reading, and most of all watching the Cleveland Indians.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Reception Center on the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center Campus, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Inurnment will follow at Willoughby Memorial Gardens.
