Chester "The Flagman" Matyjasik
Chester Matyjasik, 90, of Mentor for the past 30 years, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Ohio Veteran's Home in Sandusky. He was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Mogadore.
Mr. Matyjasik was a retired Tool & Die Maker at the former Cleveland Graphite & Bronze, where he worked for 30 years.
Chester was a U.S. Army World War II
veteran. He was a member and past commander of VFW
Post 1500 in Willoughby. Chester was known for his patriotism by his display of flags for Memorial Day in the front yard of his Mentor home. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption in Mentor. He was an avid sportsman; including fishing, hunting and golfing.
Survivors include children, Pat (Karlheinz) Kiesselbach of Melbourne, Fla., Kathy "Kate" (Allan) Blacksmith of Aurora, Michael "Bigfoot" Matyjasik of Cleveland and Chester "Buz" (Sherry) Matyjasik of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Frankie (Heidi) Lacoshus, Monica and Ralph Cummings, Allan Blacksmith, Greg (Geraldine) Matyjasik, Eric, Kimmy and Bryan Matyjasik; great-grandchildren, Frankie "Shaggy", Damien, Maison and Huey; and brother, Walter Matyjasik.
Preceding Chester in death is his wife, Florence "Flo" Matyjasik; parents, Antoni and Mary Matyjasik; sisters, Sophie Lorkowski, Helen Vasko, Jean Pruszkowski, Josephine Molnar and Clara Recklaw.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Interment will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to
