Eva Penttila, 88, of Fairport Harbor, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Lake Health West Medical Center.
Born Feb. 7, 1925, in Soini, Finland, she was the daughter of Eliina and John Kallio.
Eva was formerly employed by the Painesville Township Schools. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor.
Eva enjoyed walking, and was an avid gardener who also loved to knit and crochet. Mrs. Penttila made the best breads and pulla.
Survivors are her daughters, Helena (Richard) Black of Lowell, Ind., and Maria (Dennis) Nelson and Brita Penttila, both of Painesville; son, Heikki "Hank" (Linda) Penttila of Chardon; grandchildren, Stuart and Robert Black, Sam and Jacob Nelson, Elina (Karl) Spiesman, Erica, Matthew and Dane Penttila and Victoria Sofra; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Saren and Troy Black, and Tyler, Timothy and Maggie Nelson; and brother, Arne (Eva) Kallio of Fairport Harbor.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Svante H. Penttila; brothers, Sulo and Paavo Kallio; sister, Elvi Lampinen; and her parents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, 504 Eagle St., Fairport Harbor, OH 44077. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Potti Funeral Home, 538 Fifth St., Fairport Harbor.
