Mass of Christian Burial for Frank T. "Buster" Oravecz, 97, of Kirtland, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
Mr. Oravecz passed away May 9, 2013, in Kirtland.
Born Aug. 2, 1915, in War, W.Va., he was a resident of Wickliffe before moving to Kirtland 20 years ago.
A World War II
Veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor, Frank belonged to the American Legion Post 7. He was also a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church as well as the Wickliffe Hall of Fame and Knights of Columbus. Previously employed as a service technician for Towmotor Company (now Caterpillar), Frank enjoyed gardening, boxing, Class A baseball and played for the St. Louis Browns (Baltimore Orioles). His family will remember him fondly as a unique man who was passionate, caring, driven, unselfish and willing to give of himself.
Survivors are his wife, Jennie (nee Koren); sons, Mark (Kathy) of Thompson and Frank C. of Willowick; daughter, Valerie Semperger; grandchildren, Lisa (Raymond) Simpkins, Todd Oravecz and Dillon Semperger; great-grandson, Grant; brothers, George and Stanley, both of Pennsylvania and Andrew of New Mexico; and sister, Helen Davis of California. He was also the dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine (nee Babula) Oravecz; brothers, John, Michael, Martin, Joseph, Thomas and Stephen; and sisters, Mary Modrak and Rose Kemp.
Calling hours are from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Road (between Bishop Road and Route 91). Burial with military honors will be at Western Reserve Memorial Garden Cemetery.
