George Henke, 83, passed away peacefully July 19, 2013, at his residence.
Born in Germany on Jan. 14, 1930, he came to the United States in his early 20s and married Grace Galbuogette, originally from Lithuania. They owned and managed a bakery with his sister and brother-in-law in Chicago, Ill.
In 1959, the couple opened a bakery in Cleveland, made Highland Heights their home and proudly became U.S. citizens. George retired from Bakers Union Local 19 after working as a bakery manager at many well-known, Cleveland area supermarkets.
George had a passion for creating intricate, detailed drawings using colored pencils. His numerous drawings will continue to be enjoyed by family. He also enjoyed traveling with family to Townsend, Wis., where they owned property on Smoke Lake. He often sat at the kitchen table, looked out the window at the lake and commented, ""This is my one million dollar view!""
George was a loving and devoted husband to Grace Henke; a fantastic father to Harry (Vivian) Henke of Concord; and a proud and loving grandfather to Ashley Henke of Concord. The family finds joy and comfort in knowing that George got to meet and hold his great-grandson, Hunter Price, and share smiles just before his passing.
His constant smiles, generosity, and his loving and wise advice will be missed.
George's final resting place will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
