George Starkey

George A. Starkey, 87 of Geneva, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 25, 1926, in Geneva, the son of Floyd B. and Ellen (LeCrone) Starkey.
He married Ruth Marie Bell at the United Methodist Church in Geneva on July 9, 1949. On April 3, 1945, he joined the army and served in occupied Japan until October 1946 as a cook's helper and than as a procurement officer for the PX. After returning home he worked for the True Temper Company and then the Industrial Rayon Corporation. At age 37, he decided to become an insurance agent for Monumental Life and was with them until retirement in 1989. This meant he had to go back to school and get his diploma, which he did and was so successful as an agent that he and his wife were able to attend conferences in Marco Island, the Bahamas and Hawaii.
Mr. Starkey was a member of the American Legion, George Call Post #124 for over 50 years. He serves as president of the Geneva Lion's Club from 1969 to 1970 and as president of the Madison Lion's Club from 1981 to 1982.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Starkey; a son, Dalton G. (Cheryl) Starkey of Madison; his daughters, Debra J. (Peter) Latimer of Duluth, Ha, Diane M. Starkey of Painesville and Donalyn Starkey of Madison; his brothers, Floyd (Eleanor) Starkey, Jr. of Murrells Inlet, S.C., William (lila) Starkey of Painesville, Bruce (Eleanor) Starkey of LaPorte, Texas; his sisters, Mary Starkey and Lois (Harry) Stanton both of Geneva, Ruth Ann (Denny) Hiner of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Jerry McDonald of Geneva; brother and sister-in-law, Milo and Marlene Bell of Seneca, S.C., brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Debbie Bell of Centreville, Va.; his grandchildren, Emily (Jeremy) Curtaindale, Tess Latimer, Katie Hoffacker, and Sam (Erin) Latimer; great-grandchildren, Corbin, Talia, Lexie, Kaileb, Jocelyn and Miana Rose; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Chester Kennedy; sister-in-law, Lila Starkey; brother-in-law, Harry Stanton; mother-in-law, Georgia (Harry) Randles; father-in-law, Eugene N. (Maxine) Bell; and his niece, Rebecca Kennedy.
A memorial talk will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, March 23 at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 323 South Broadway, Geneva.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral Home and a memorial celebration will be immediately following the memorial talk at the Geneva Community Center, 72 West Main Street, Geneva. His final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, River Street, Madison.
