Gordon L. Allen, 76, of Perry, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at home.
Born Oct. 3, 1935, in Mayfield Heights to Christine (Bain) and Elmer Lee Allen, he married Elizabeth Koppa in Angola, Ind., in 1958.
Mr. Allen was the owner/operator of the Painesville Speedway.
He was a U.S. Navy
veteran, serving during the Korean War
. He was an avid fisherman of the water of N.E. Georgian Bay (Canada). He piloted the No. 90 Chevrolet to four Figure 8 Division championships at Painesville Speedway, in the 1980s. He was also an inventor with patents and fabricator. He could fix and make better most everything he touched. He also built his homemade car and fishing boat and enjoyed them for over three decades.
He is survived by wife or 53 years, Elizabeth Allen of Perry; daughter, Dana Allen of Perry; son, Mark (Karen) Allen of Madison; grandchildren, Seth, Chad and Jerrica Scott; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Lucas Scott; sister, Faye (Roy) Keller of Hartville; nieces, Rose (Bob) Garsteck of Seven Hills and Donna (Bob) Manjura of Parma; and great-nieces, Halley, Kelsey and Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Glenna Tokman; and brother-in-law, Jerry Tokman.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
